Rykie — Terms of Service
Last updated: 30 September 2026
The short version
Rykie is an organic chemistry practice app. The learning path is free. Premium is a paid extra. You may use Rykie to study; you may not copy it out, resell it, or use it to harm anyone. Payments on the website are handled by Paddle. Premium can be tried for free first; a purchase is refunded within 14 days if premium was not used, and a billing mistake is always put right.
1. Who we are
Rykie is made and operated by Josip Car, an individual developer based in Croatia (“we”, “us”). Anything to do with these terms: rykie.support@gmail.com.
These terms apply to the Rykie app for Android, the web app at
rykie.app, and the website around it (together, “Rykie”). By
using Rykie you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
2. Using Rykie
- Who can use it. Rykie is written for secondary-school and university students and is not directed at children under 13. To buy premium you must be old enough to make a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s permission.
- Accounts. You can sign in with Google or continue as a guest. A guest account exists only on the device or browser it was created on, and can be lost if that is cleared or reinstalled. Keep your sign-in to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- What you may do. Study, for your own personal, non-commercial use.
- What you may not do. Copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish or resell the questions, answers, explanations, drawings or cheat sheets; get around the limits on free use or the payment for premium; share a premium account to let others avoid paying; reverse-engineer the app except where the law lets you; attack, overload or probe our servers; or use Rykie to harass anyone. League display names must not be offensive or impersonate anyone, and we may change or remove a name that is.
3. Free use and premium
The learning path is free. Premium adds unlimited hearts, every chapter unlocked from the start, and all of Practice (the drills and the cheat sheets). What premium includes, and what it costs, is shown on the premium page before you pay; we may change the features and prices for new purchases at any time. A price you have already paid does not change.
4. Paying
- On Android premium is bought through Google Play and is subject to Google Play’s terms. Manage or cancel it in Google Play.
- On the website and web app premium is bought through our reseller Paddle. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our web orders. Paddle handles payments, taxes such as VAT, invoices and refunds, and answers customer-service questions about an order. You will see the final price, including any tax that applies in your country, before you pay. Paddle’s buyer terms apply to the purchase.
- Plans. The monthly plan renews every month until you cancel. The 6-month (“Semester”) and yearly passes are a single payment for that length of time and do not renew automatically. When one ends, premium ends with it; you keep your progress, and you can buy again if you want to continue. Because Paddle handles them as a subscription set to end, you will receive an email from Paddle right after buying one saying the subscription “will be canceled” at the end of the period. That is the pass working as described: it confirms you will not be charged again.
- Cancelling. Cancel a monthly plan at any time; it stays active until the end of the period you paid for and does not renew after that. On the web, use Manage subscription on the premium page or the link in any Paddle receipt email.
- Refunds. See our refund policy.
- One premium, everywhere. Premium belongs to your account, so a plan bought on the web also unlocks the Android app when you are signed in to the same account, and the other way round.
5. Coins, hearts and other things in the app
Coins, hearts, XP, streaks, titles, avatars and similar things are part of the game. They are earned by studying, cannot be bought with money, have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and may be adjusted if we change the game.
6. Our content, and yours
The questions, explanations, drawings and other content in Rykie belong to us or are used with permission, and are protected by copyright. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them inside Rykie while these terms apply. Open-source components keep their own licences, which are listed in the app under Profile → Open source licenses.
The only things you give us are your progress and, if you join the league, the display name you type. You keep ownership of it, and you allow us to store and show it to the friends you added, as described in our privacy policy.
7. A study aid, not a guarantee
We work hard to keep Rykie correct, and we fix mistakes we are told about, but chemistry is detailed and a question, an answer or an explanation can be wrong. Rykie is a study aid. It is not professional advice, it is not affiliated with any exam board or university, and using it does not guarantee any grade or result. If you find a mistake, please write to us.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep Rykie running, but we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or unchanged. We may add, change or remove features, and we may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can stop using Rykie and delete your account at any time (Profile → Account → Delete account, or see the account deletion page). Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it first.
9. Liability
Rykie is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of progress, grades or opportunities, and our total liability for anything arising from Rykie is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of Croatia, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your own country. If something goes wrong, write to us first and we will try to put it right.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, the date at the top changes with it, and a material change will be announced in the app or on the website before it takes effect. Using Rykie after that means you accept the new terms.
